Zveme vás na speciální promítání filmu Józef Czapski 1896–1993: Svědek století (2015) v režii Andrzeje Wolského u příležitosti 130. výročí narození pražského rodáka, malíře a spisovatele Józefa Czapského. Po promítání bude následovat diskuse s režiséry Andrzejem Wolským a Agnieszkou Holland, která je spoluautorkou dokumentárního filmu Czapski (1985). Hosté se podělí o své vzpomínky na umělce a o zkušenosti z práce na obou filmech. Společně poznáme Józefa Czapského nejen jako výjimečného malíře a spisovatele, ale také jako Evropana, intelektuála a svědka dějin – muže, jehož pozoruhodný život byl hluboce poznamenán dramatickými událostmi 20. století. Spoluorganizátoři: Instytut Adama Mickiewicze, Francouzský institut v Praze, Polský institut v Praze.
Dokument Andrzeje Wolskiho prostřednictvím archivních materiálů, mimo jiné záběrů natočených Andrzejem Wajdou a archivů francouzské a německé televize, přibližuje výjimečný život a tvorbu tohoto intelektuála, malíře a spisovatele, který se stal svědkem téměř celého svého století.

The Year of Józef Czapski: Screening and Discussion with Directors Andrzej Wolski and Agnieszka Holland
We invite you to a special screening of Józef Czapski 1896–1993: Witness of the Century (2015), directed by Andrzej Wolski, marking the 130th anniversary of the birth of Józef Czapski, the Prague-born painter and writer.
The screening will be followed by a discussion with directors Andrzej Wolski and Agnieszka Holland, who co-directed the documentary Czapski (1985). The guests will share their memories of the artist and their experiences working on the two films.
Together, we will discover Józef Czapski not only as an exceptional painter and writer, but also as a European, intellectual and witness to history – a man whose remarkable life was profoundly shaped by the dramatic events of the 20th century.

Through archival footage, including material filmed by Andrzej Wajda and archives from French and German television, Andrzej Wolski’s documentary traces the extraordinary life of this intellectual, painter and writer, offering a portrait of a man who became a witness to almost an entire century.
The film is in French, Polish and German, with French and Czech subtitles.
The discussion will be held in French with interpretation into Czech.
