Challenges to environmental politics in Czech Republic and Central Europe

A roundtable in English engaging scholar Gilles Lepesant and climate influencer Rozárie Haškovcová in dialogue

French Institute in Prague

As we are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Paris agreement in December 2025, let’s shift focus from Paris to Prague!

In this roundtable we will question the legacy of the Paris agreement in Central Europe and Czech Republic: what assessment can we make of Central Europe’s environmental and energy politics? What are the main challenges ahead?

Crossing the unique perspectives of Gilles and Rozarie, we will seek to map out the needs and difficulties regarding climate political ambition, measures and strategies (what needs to be done and how), as well as the challenges or reluctancies regarding climate communication (how to talk about climate change in Central Europe in the current context).

Gilles Lepesant is a French geographer in CNRS (National Centre of Scientific Research) and senior research fellow assigned to the CEFRES (French research center in social sciences) in Prague. His research focuses on European climate and energy politics, with a focus on renewable energy geography. He covers the EU level as well as regional levels, with a special interest in Central Europe.

Rozárie Haškovcová is a Czech environmental influencer (@shluk.bunek) and student in environmental politics at SciencesPo PSIA (Paris School of International Affairs).
