When France and the Czech Republic join forces to advance robotics

13.10.2026

On 5 October 2026, the French Embassy in the Czech Republic hosted the launch of OPTIROB, a new international research project by the CNRS, bringing together researchers from the Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU) and LAAS-CNRS in Toulouse.

From 2026 to 2030, their teams will work together on cutting-edge challenges in robotics, optimisation, control and computer vision, with one aim: to develop new algorithms to solve complex problems and improve the performance of robotic systems.

This international research project (IRP) forms part of the CNRS’s international policy. IRPs are a tool for scientific collaboration, fostering scientific exchange between a team of French researchers and an international team.

How can a robot be enabled to make better decisions? How can complex tasks be optimised within a reasonable timeframe? How can computer vision, planning and robotic manipulation be combined? These are all questions at the heart of OPTIROB, which builds on a long-standing Franco-Czech scientific collaboration between Prague and Toulouse, strengthened in recent years notably by the ROBOPROX project – Robotics and Advanced Industrial Production.

The French Institute in Prague is delighted to have helped coordinate and organise the implementation of this agreement, which today marks the start of a new chapter in scientific cooperation between France and the Czech Republic.

For further information on the ceremony and the OPTIROB project, please see the press release issued by the Czech Technical University in Prague.
